Kairi Chanel – Dave East

Hailing from the streets of Harlem, signed to Nas’ record label Mass Appeal and featuring  on 2016 XXL Freshman’s Class list, Dave East’s latest project Kairi Chanel is throwback to New York’s distinguished hip-hop sound.

Fatherhood becoming one of the most defining moments in his life, the fifteen track project is named after his daughter Kairi Chanel. East’s first track ‘It Was Written’ pays homage to Harlem through gritty kicks and snares with a familiar New York sound.

With features from 2 Chainz, Sevyn Streeter, Fabolous, Cam’ron, Beanie Sigel, Jazzy Amrah and The Game, Kairi Chanel exposes East’s lyrical ability, his reality and, his journey as a storyteller on tracks such as ‘Keisha’ to ‘Don’t Shoot’.

Hard-hitting lyrics, cold instrumentals and, East’s hunger to reach the top makes you want to play this mixtape on a late night cruise through the city.

“Everybody keep telling me ‘Make a club record/You ain’t trapping no more, stop making drug records. You got a daughter bout to come/ Stop making thug records.’”
